Last night I dreamed that I was watching a musical episode of Community.  When I woke up, I had "Dancing Queen" stuck in my head because Pierce had been singing it.  Needless to say, I was quite disappointed to realize that I had been dreaming.

I watched the actual episode of Community.  It was good.  I liked it.  But I still wish it had been a musical.

Game of Thrones: The Kingsroad

I have forgotten so much from the first book (in my defense, it's been at least 6 years since I read it last).  The plus side: certain things were surprising!  spoilery for the second episode and the first book )

I so need an icon.  But I can't decide if I want one of Arya, Tyrion, or Dany.  Or any of the characters that I love (which is ALL OF THEM).  Such a dilemma!  I also can't decide which of my current icons to ditch.  #firstworldproblems

ETA: Guest appearance from Shah's dad (via email): "Oh, and I HATE HATE HATE that sniveling arrogant tiny-toothed Joffrey."

I also watched the new Doctor Who but can't really think of anything to say so I'll just wait until the second part.  I liked it but I'm a tad confused.  Also my friend kept trying to talk to me while I was watching it, so I kind of missed some things.  One of which, I have since learned, was extremely significant.

Best thing that has happened to me all week: discovering HBO GO.  I've been quietly freaking out about how to pirate GoT, to the point where I actually had an extremely stressful dream last week in which I couldn't find any links.  I was very upset.  So last night I was poking around the HBO website (trying to find out if they were going to put the episodes up on iTunes) and discovered that since my father has an HBO subscription, I can sign in as him and watch the episodes online!  I almost watched the episode right then and there (they put it up immediately!  Unbelievable) but I had to be up in 8 hours and I knew I wouldn't be able to fall asleep afterward.

Awesome article about River Tam, Buffy Summers, and Ellen Ripley.  There's a bit of love for Kara Thrace in there too.  Sady Doyle on The Awl: Ellen Ripley Saved My Life

I'm not sure how I feel about her comments on Sarah Connor.  I've not yet managed to sit through a Terminator movie from start to finish (I've seen bits and pieces of the first three), but I disagree with her take on the Sarah from T:SCC.  Although she may be overshadowed by Cameron in the fans' eyes, I don't think that she bows down to John or Derek or Cameron.  Quite the opposite, actually.

Also, Community:

Also, I just watched Community. let's be ironic )

Day 19: Character You Like That Everyone Else Hates

Sadly, there are FAR TOO MANY possible answers.  I HAVE TO USE CAPSLOCK.

First, we have Dawn Summers.

Now, I'll admit that was pretty annoying in seasons 5 and 6.  But she matured and turned out to be awesome in season 7.  She doesn't deserve all the fandom hate.  And I'm such a contrarian that I feel the need to tell everyone I LIKE DAWN SUMMERS.

Next up: Riley Finn

So yeah, he's no Angel and he and Buffy were never going to get their happily ever after, but you know what?  Riley Finn is a good guy.  And he made Buffy smile.  Everyone complains about him being boring (Captain Cardboard and all that) and okay, so I may have thought the same at one point in time, but every time I watch him in seasons 4 and 5 I remember that I actually don't find him boring at all.  And I like him.  So there.

But the winner for this category is Buffy Summers:

Yes Buffy, I'm confused too.  Not confused that I like you--I love you!  I said you were my favorite character from the show!  No, I'm confused that you are eligible for the category of "character you like that everyone else hates."  Now that is confusing.  Also did I mention that I am dressing as Buffy for Halloween this year?  I am super excited because I whittled my own stake.

20&21: Spike and Willow )
shah_of_blah: (bret looking cool)
How's that for a title?

I. I had almost given up on Farscape.  I was a couple discs into season two, but I hadn't been watching it recently.  Too distracted by life, current tv, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and also 30 Rock (I'm only two seasons behind).  I liked Aeryn, and John, and Chiana and Zhaan but the show was boring me.  And then, just randomly, I returned to Farscape yesterday...and dammit, they've sucked me in again!  The episode was "Out of Their Minds" and it was just so fun and cute.  Dammit.  I just...I get so tired of these problem-of-the-week episodes, and their bad guys are seriously boring.  And I can forgive that stuff in the first season but so far there's no sign of a genuine arc and it's just...well, now I'm watching Farscape again, but for how long?  Will I make it to the end of this season?  Or will I lose interest again?  I do not know.

II. spoilers for Chuck )

III. A meme from emmiere:
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter. (If you ask)
2. List (and upload) 5 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

Love is a Hard Waltz by Nanci Griffith
Like a River by Kasey Chambers
Latika's Theme by AR Rahmann
Let It Blow by Richard Thompson
Little Rock & Roller by Steve Earle

IV. In case you haven't been listening to me ramble about it in the last couple of weeks, I've been re-reading His Dark Materials with BSG in mind.  the Grumman problem )
shah_of_blah: (bees!)
Dexter: Hello Bandit )

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Cubic Z )

Glee: Grilled Cheesus )

The Big Bang Theory: I don't know what this episode was called )

Community: The Psychology of Letting Go )

Day 6: Favorite Male Character

Giles!  He's just so Giles-y.  I want one.  Also my Grandma thinks he's hot.  Okay, I don't really have anything to say about him other than I love him and he's awesome,, have a video (not embedding because I'm lazy and it makes my browser slow).

Oh, and an update on my BSG/HDM whatever-this-is.  I've done some more casting/recasting.

Lyra = Kara
Will = Lee
Roger = Zak
Lord Asriel = Adama
Mrs. Coulter = Number Six
Lee Scoresby = Helo
Serafina = Athena
Mary Malone = Laura Roslin
The golden monkey = Leoben
The magisterium also = Leoben (just go with it)
Metatron = Cavil

Iorek is still Iorek.  Will's mom will be Carolanne, obvs.  I'm missing a Stanislaus Grumman though.

Holy crap that's a lot of tags.

My TV shows, they are back!  I just typed "shoes" instead of "shows," by the way, so my TV shoes are also back, whatever that means.

Glee: oh traitorous heart )

Chuck: I loved it )

YOU GUYS, I just realized that the [ profile] pilotsbigbang  fics are due on the day that an explosion is going to tear a crack in the fabric of the universe.  And if there are two things I don't believe in, they're coincidences and leprechauns.

Anyway, I, uh, watched Doctor Who ("The Pandorica Opens").  what it says on the tin )

In other news, I am still writing things.  And am also now pondering a blog post about Doctor Who that might be titled something like "Genderfail in Doctor Who, or I Love River Song and I Don't Care Who Frakking Knows."  And I think I need a new DW icon...
shah_of_blah: (kara sunshine)
...but then I totally did.

whatever this episode is called )

I am so close to being done with this 30 Days meme!

Day 28. First TV show obsession

Unless you count those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bedsheets I had as a child, it has to be...drumroll please (slash this should come as no surprise)...
my first obsession and my current obsession )
shah_of_blah: (martha)
Doctor Who: Cold Blood
spoiler alert )

On a lighter note, I am now in possession of a knitted sonic screwdriver.  Yes I am.  My friend made it for me, and it is every bit as awesome as you can imagine.

And now, how about some useless fangirling?
Day 14. Favorite male character

I actually couldn't think of many contenders for this category.  There are lots of male characters that I love, but few of them really stand out without their ensemble.  I thought about the Doctor, but I feel bad calling him a favorite when I have only seen 3 of his 11 selves.  Plus, I don't know...he hasn't quite earned that 'favorite' status.  So my answer: Malcolm Reynolds.

Now, I have no idea who made that image (got it from google) but isn't it wondrous?  Captain Reynolds.  Mal.  I loved you ever since you said "I just wanted you to face me so she could get behind you."  I love that you're mean.  I love that you're totally fine with having Zoe fight (and win) your battles.  I love that every Unification Day sees you fancying a drink in an Alliance-friendly bar.  I love that you may have been on the losing side, but you're not convinced it was the wrong side.  I love that Simon's on your crew and you don't know why you're still talking about this.  And, you know, I love your pretty floral bonnet.
Day 15. Favorite female character

This should be obvious.  Do I even need to say it?  Kara Thrace, you have consumed my attention ever since I watched you jogging through the corridors in the miniseries.  Since I have already expounded on my insane Kara love many times, I will just share a brief conversation that took place between me and my sister yesterday, as we perused EW's top 100 characters.

Sister: Oh look, it's Starbuck.  72.  Damn, that means Edward Cullen beat her.
Me: What?  Are you serious?  Well she's my No. 1.
Sister: ...Really?
Me: Um.  Yes.  Don't judge me.

ETA: I also realized that I wanted to say something about the "Dream On" episode of Glee, which only occurred to me the other day.  totally silly and inconsequential )
shah_of_blah: (kara occupation)
Okay, so I've spent awhile now trying to work out exactly what I think about the Lost finale.  spoilers )

Goodbye, Lost.  It's been real.

And I've got some of that meme as well.
Day 06. Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Now, with seven season of Buffy to choose from, I have a lot of favorite episodes of this show. The obvious answer would be Once More, With Feeling.  And I do love it.  But I think I'll have to go with something a little different: Graduation Day.  I frakking love Graduation Day.  It's my favorite of all the season finales (and this show had some damn fine finales).  It's so exciting, and so sad and so sweet and so get the idea.  I'm pretty sure I cheered when Buffy yelled, "Now!"

Day 07. Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Unlike the last question, this one is easy.  Where the Wild Things Are.  Godawful episode.  I have nothing more to say about it.

As a bonus, since my flist is all about the BSG, I'll tell you my least favorite episode(s) of that show too!  Everyone always complains about Black Market and the Woman King.  Yes, they're stupid episodes.  But I think they are both far superior to Taking A Break From All Your Worries and A Day in the Life.  So it's between those two.  I think I have to go with TAB.  And it's not just because TAB breaks up my OTP.  It's because the episode is poorly written, poorly cobbled together, and makes no sense.  Lee sobbing in the corridor is pretty bad, but what really kills this episode for me is Laura, Adama and Cottle (Cottle of all people!) engaging in horrific torture of a prisoner.  Next to that, Black Market hardly compares, in my mind.
shah_of_blah: (bad horse)
But first, totally unrelated to Lost--a PSA.  Of a sort.  So, many people are struggling through finals right now, and hopefully not reading my LJ if that's the case, but, well.  As of 11pm last night, I am officially on vacation, hence using today to catch up on all the TV I missed in the last few days.  But one thing that helped me out a lot this past week was this awesome little app called Self Control.  You can download it for free, and then you create a blocklist and designate a time period.  For example, I blocked Facebook and Livejournal for several hours yesterday, and until the time was up my computer would not let me access either website.  Awesome!  Self control for the people who have none.  Okay, /psa.

Lost: Across the Sea
