Oh Glee.  I don't know how to deal with you )

In other news, I have spent the last couple of days reading trashy BtVS all-human AUs.  Yeah, I don't know either.

While I'm waiting for the latest Dexter to load, I'm gonna go ahead with this meme!

Oh, and before I forget--I posted a rambly and surprisingly positive review of Glee's "Duets" on Critically Obsessed.

Days 22-24 )what's to come )

Day 6: Favorite Male Character

Giles!  He's just so Giles-y.  I want one.  Also my Grandma thinks he's hot.  Okay, I don't really have anything to say about him other than I love him and he's awesome, so...here, have a video (not embedding because I'm lazy and it makes my browser slow).

Oh, and an update on my BSG/HDM whatever-this-is.  I've done some more casting/recasting.

Lyra = Kara
Will = Lee
Roger = Zak
Lord Asriel = Adama
Mrs. Coulter = Number Six
Lee Scoresby = Helo
Serafina = Athena
Mary Malone = Laura Roslin
The golden monkey = Leoben
The magisterium also = Leoben (just go with it)
Metatron = Cavil

Iorek is still Iorek.  Will's mom will be Carolanne, obvs.  I'm missing a Stanislaus Grumman though.

Holy crap that's a lot of tags.

1. After a few months of nothing, I have returned to the blogosphere.  You may read my reviews of Chuck Versus the Anniversary and Glee's Auditions at Critically Obsessed.  Or not, since they're mostly just prettified versions of my episode reaction posts on here.  Also at some point I will get off my ass and review Dexter, not to mention the next episodes of Chuck and Glee (short version: loved the latest Chuck, was profoundly bored by the latest Glee).  But as you may have noticed, I am a very lazy blogger.

But I do like to update this ol' thing with a bit more frequency, so...

2. I've decided to be Buffy for Halloween (with my friend who is going as Faith).  In honor of that, I've also decided to give this meme a shot!  I might not make it through all thirty days.  Or I might expedite the process like last time.  We'll see.

Day 1: Favorite Season

Season 3.  It's just classic Buffy.  It has everything--the heart of the team (Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Giles) and some Plus Ones (Angel, Oz, Cordelia...).  Angst and drama and character growth.  An amazing villain (Mayor Wilkins <3).  Great storylines.  And so intrinsically tied to the confusion of finishing high school.  It's pretty much just awesome.  There's only one episode that I would consider a 'bad' episode, and that's Dead Man's Party--and it's still pretty good (Giles mocks Americans!  Oz defines a hootenanny!  Zombies crash the party!).  So if that's the lowest point, the rest of the season has to be pretty damn great.  There's a reason [livejournal.com profile] visualthinker11  and I chose Season 3 for the [livejournal.com profile] hellmouth_vsds (which is that we love it, and also that Buffy and Angel really pile on the angst in this season).

Still need convincing?

clicky for awesome vid )

the rest of the meme. i haven't even read the whole list )

Oh yeah, and 3. "God Is A DJ" came up on iTunes shuffle today and it made me ridiculously happy.  I'm so excited to have the Kara vidlet-a-thon and the All the Galactica Ladies Ficathon to look forward to!  Yay more gen Kara stuff!  I am hereby giving this post my every week is kara week tag.  It is my favorite tag.

Also 4. I got my [livejournal.com profile] intoabar  assignment and I have noooooo idea what I am going to write.  But it's cool.  I'll figure something out.
shah_of_blah: (bees!)
My TV shows, they are back!  I just typed "shoes" instead of "shows," by the way, so my TV shoes are also back, whatever that means.

Glee: oh traitorous heart )

Chuck: I loved it )
shah_of_blah: (kara sunshine)
...but then I totally did.

whatever this episode is called )

I am so close to being done with this 30 Days meme!

Day 28. First TV show obsession

Unless you count those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bedsheets I had as a child, it has to be...drumroll please (slash this should come as no surprise)...

my first obsession and my current obsession )

shah_of_blah: (bret looking cool)
Day 16. Your guilty pleasure show

I thought about saying BSG, but the 'guilty' part of 'guilty pleasure' isn't that I watch the show, but the intensity with which I watch it.  You know, my complete and utter geekery.  But for a genuine guilty pleasure...I think I have to go with Glee.  Because the writing is so uneven, and because I see the stereotypes and the tokenization and the weirdly sexist bits.  I see these things, but I watch the show anyway.  Come on, it's just so much fun.  Plus, Kurt's dad makes me cry.  And sometimes Puck sings ("Lady is a Tramp"--omg I just about died of squee).

Day 17. Favorite mini series

This was a little trickier.  There were two runner-ups (runners-up?).
1. Battlestar Galactica - the miniseries is really frakking good.  I think it's an excellent piece of television.  But I do think of it as part of the show, which I talk about all the time.  So for the sake of variety, I didn't choose BSG.
2. The animated version of Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters (on imdb).  This is a really awesome adaptation from the book.  I mean, it's word-for-word!  And the book is absolutely hilarious.  If you're a Pratchett fan, you should definitely check this out.

But for sheer fabulousness and amount of time I've wasted spent watching it, I had to go with the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries.   Some clips for your enjoyment:

Doctor Who: Cold Blood
spoiler alert )

On a lighter note, I am now in possession of a knitted sonic screwdriver.  Yes I am.  My friend made it for me, and it is every bit as awesome as you can imagine.

And now, how about some useless fangirling?
Day 14. Favorite male character

I actually couldn't think of many contenders for this category.  There are lots of male characters that I love, but few of them really stand out without their ensemble.  I thought about the Doctor, but I feel bad calling him a favorite when I have only seen 3 of his 11 selves.  Plus, I don't know...he hasn't quite earned that 'favorite' status.  So my answer: Malcolm Reynolds.

Now, I have no idea who made that image (got it from google) but isn't it wondrous?  Captain Reynolds.  Mal.  I loved you ever since you said "I just wanted you to face me so she could get behind you."  I love that you're mean.  I love that you're totally fine with having Zoe fight (and win) your battles.  I love that every Unification Day sees you fancying a drink in an Alliance-friendly bar.  I love that you may have been on the losing side, but you're not convinced it was the wrong side.  I love that Simon's on your crew and you don't know why you're still talking about this.  And, you know, I love your pretty floral bonnet.

Day 15. Favorite female character

This should be obvious.  Do I even need to say it?  Kara Thrace, you have consumed my attention ever since I watched you jogging through the corridors in the miniseries.  Since I have already expounded on my insane Kara love many times, I will just share a brief conversation that took place between me and my sister yesterday, as we perused EW's top 100 characters.

Sister: Oh look, it's Starbuck.  72.  Damn, that means Edward Cullen beat her.
Me: What?  Are you serious?  Well she's my No. 1.
Sister: ...Really?
Me: Um.  Yes.  Don't judge me.

ETA: I also realized that I wanted to say something about the "Dream On" episode of Glee, which only occurred to me the other day.  totally silly and inconsequential )
shah_of_blah: (bret looking cool)
A show that you wish more people were watching:

Reasons you should be watching Chuck )

Also, I frakking loved the latest Glee.  I think "Dream on" was my favorite episode from this season (or is this still the first season?  I'm so confused).  I loved every single song.  Artie's storyline was great.  And there wasn't any fail, or random paraplegic kids.
shah_of_blah: (never fade away)
So, I’ve had His Dark Materials on my mind lately, especially the end. And I don’t want to go into specifics for anyone who might not want spoilers, but it got me thinking. I read The Amber Spyglass when I was a wee thing, and it was the very first work of fiction (be it a book, show, or movie) that made me cry. I remember reading with my mom throughout my childhood, and she’d be sobbing over Anne of Green Gables (I mean, yeah, that one part is really sad) or Black Gold or whatnot and I’d be a rock. Never shed a single tear. But Will and Lyra changed that. Ever since that book, I cry at a lot of books/shows/movies.  But not always the ones you’d expect. Um. So, this post is about things that have made me cry! And by “things” I mostly mean TV shows, but feel free to bring in other works. I want to know what makes you cry! That sounds weird, but it’s true. And gosh, I hope I'm not the only one who thinks about these things.

This is not a comprehensive list. Gods, but there are way too many for me to remember!

a mixed bag )

So readers, what makes you cry? Enquiring minds want to know. Well, I do anyway.  Maybe that’s just my morbid curiosity talking. But what tugs on your heartstrings like no other?  I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys talking about these things!

*The absolute worst movies I've ever seen, if anyone wants to know, would be the following (in no particular order): Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Nine, and Vantage Point.

Part 2 (out of 3) of the writing meme!

11-20 )

Also because it's going around, I wanted to see if I could do the icon meme.  I only have fifteen icons, it was a bit of a challenge to see if I could find one to fit each category.

How do you feel right now?

icon meme )
So what else is new?  Today I watched Lost and Glee.  Wednesdays are going to be killers from here on out.  Glee was pretty good--a bit of a mess narrative-wise, but my world is brighter with Sue Sylvester in it.  As for Lost, this was just another week where I was left not knowing what to say.  At all.  I liked it, I think?  But I had a minor freak-out when I went looking for Jezebel's weekly recap and IT WASN'T THERE (it's there now) because I don't think I can handle this show anymore without some wise person telling me what to think.

TV Meme

TV meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] gypsy_sally .  I've been busy and sort of out of the LJ loop, and seriously lagging on the fic front.  But it's getting there.  I hope.  Anyway, have a meme.

I am having a crisis, flist. I am seriously considering signing up for [livejournal.com profile] pilotsbigbang . Really, truly considering it. In fact, I THINK I'M GOING TO DO IT. I haven't signed up yet though because I am still panicking a little bit. I have no plot! A premise is not a plot. What am I doing? I just keep telling myself I can withdraw at a later date. But...this might be just what I need to break my plot-barrier. (Just to be clear, this is not the plotfic I'm talking about--it's another story that I mentioned briefly before, as one of those persistent ideas with very unfortunate timing).  I'd better sign up before I lose my nerve.

Instead of working on any of my stories, I have been watching Glee. I'm sure you'll all agree this is a valid use of my time. I have A Few Thoughts.

Glee 1.1-1.13 )

Edited because LJ's being a jerk.
Edited again to add this: In my high school experience, the cheerleaders did not actually wear their uniforms every minute of every day.  Just saying.

And that's my commentary!

In other news, Glee has come to Perú. And cable has come to my house, so I caught the second episode (first episode? first real episode?). I had some Thoughts on it but don't really care to write them up, as I'm sure they occurred to you too (namely, it's far too soon for all these romantic developments, and really I would rather Finn and Rachel didn't become an item anyway). I did enjoy it, even as I wondered if some things might be lost in translation.

I also enjoyed the fact that, at the start of every ad break, they had a message from the stars...the main guy, whatever his name is, Teacher, his was the best.

"Hola, Latin America!" he said in the most gringo voice ever. Ironic too, since he's supposed to be a Spanish teacher.
