Re: Claire and Jack.  This family reunion is super awkward.  I don't remember when they respectively found out about their shared parentage (because...Jack didn't know Aaron was his nephew, did he?  Back in...2 seasons ago or something)

"You decided the moment you let him talk to you."  It does seem to come down to what whatshisface Temple Dude said.  Oh Sayid, if you'd only stabbed him a minute earlier.

"Who the hell's Anakin?"  You serious, Sawyer?  You live under a rock?  This is like in Big Bang Theory when Penny didn't know who the X-Men were.  You don't have to be a nerd to know some of these things.

Jack/Kate/Sawyer...*yawn*  I've actually been enjoying all three of them individually this season (yes, even Jack!  And Kate!  No one is more shocked than I), but they become exponentially less interesting the closer they are to each other.

Jin you better not be lying about the baby being okay.

Oh gosh, this show. No wonder I couldn't remember!

I may have to check out that novel even though I'm not much for fantasy or sci-fi novels. But they seem like a compelling ship. And they were 13? Wow!
Well, 13 by the end. I think Lyra's 11 or 12 in the first book. It's been a few years since my last re-read...but I love those books so much. And, I dunno, they're not really hard fantasy. I mean, there's witches and other worlds (LOTS of other worlds) but it's not like people with funny names riding around on dragons all the time. It's actually kind of an atheist (but still very spiritual) version of Paradise Lost...only for young adults. But it's also an adventure story and a love story and a growing up story.

I like young adult novels. :-) And this one seems well-written. Will reserve at the library!

ETA: I did get this book at the library yesterday. :-) I see it is a continuation from The Golden Compass? I read the Golden Compass years and years ago. I didn't know it as the 'Dark Materials' series then. It was okay. A bit hard for me to get into (it's sci-fi/fantasy to me) but I finished it. I didn't have any desire to read more then, though and I don't remember much. (This was maybe ten years ago?). Since I'm skipping the second book, will The Amber Spyglass make sense? I'm only reading for the shippage!

I don't think it will. You may not remember, but The Golden Compass is about Lyra, and Will is not introduced until the second book (The Subtle Knife), plus major plot developments. And it is quite plotty, so...you wouldn't know who Will is, or what the subtle knife is, or what Lord Asriel is doing...I'd suggest giving The Subtle Knife a try. If it's not for you, then it's not for you, but better that than jumping in with book three.

Oh noes! I forgot the ways of YA series even though I say I cut my reading teeth on them as a young girl. So complicated and intertwined. Well, I have the Amber Spyglass already and a plane ride coming shortly. I might give it a try anyway. I am crazy! And curious. :-)

Eep! Well, maybe wikipedia can help you. Fill in the blanks, you know. But shortlist on Will: he's 12, from our world. He grew up taking care of his mentally ill mother, and in the beginning of the second book kind of accidentally kills this man. Then he ends up on the run, finds a window into another world--where he meets Lyra, who decides she can trust him because he's a murderer--and also finds something called the subtle knife. It can open and close windows between dimensions. Will also loses two fingers in the fight for the knife. Um, that's the basics.
