Day 16. Your guilty pleasure show

I thought about saying BSG, but the 'guilty' part of 'guilty pleasure' isn't that I watch the show, but the intensity with which I watch it.  You know, my complete and utter geekery.  But for a genuine guilty pleasure...I think I have to go with Glee.  Because the writing is so uneven, and because I see the stereotypes and the tokenization and the weirdly sexist bits.  I see these things, but I watch the show anyway.  Come on, it's just so much fun.  Plus, Kurt's dad makes me cry.  And sometimes Puck sings ("Lady is a Tramp"--omg I just about died of squee).

Day 17. Favorite mini series

This was a little trickier.  There were two runner-ups (runners-up?).
1. Battlestar Galactica - the miniseries is really frakking good.  I think it's an excellent piece of television.  But I do think of it as part of the show, which I talk about all the time.  So for the sake of variety, I didn't choose BSG.
2. The animated version of Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters (on imdb).  This is a really awesome adaptation from the book.  I mean, it's word-for-word!  And the book is absolutely hilarious.  If you're a Pratchett fan, you should definitely check this out.

But for sheer fabulousness and amount of time I've wasted spent watching it, I had to go with the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries.   Some clips for your enjoyment:

Darcy and Elizabeth dance. It is awkward and awesome.

Sadly, they did not have the scene where Darcy notices her lovely eyes, or the scene where Caroline Bingley gets Lizzy to take a stroll around the room with her. But they do have this scene, which might be my favorite anyway:

Fun fact: Once, in high school, two friends and I were carpooling to a meeting. We were forty minutes late because A) we got lost, and B) we left late. The reason we left late? Pride and Prejudice was on TV and Friend #2 refused to leave before the end of the lake scene. When we explained our tardiness to our supervisor, she said Colin Firth jumping in a lake was a perfectly acceptable reason.

Hee! Even though CF does nothing for me, I love your supervisor. :-D

Yes, you have to respect someone who understands that some things are more important than getting places on time.

Can you believe I have never seen the "Pride and Prejudice" BBC miniseries? Well, I can't believe it myself. I need to change that :)

Heee. A very cool supervisor :)

ETA. I totally agree with you on Glee. I enjoy it even though my rational side tells me I shouldn't!

Oh, you should definitely watch it! Especially if you like the book. It's very well done. I was quite sad when Jennifer Ehle's role was recast on ASOIAF, as she is fantastic as Lizzy.

I completely agree with you about Glee-it's such a weirdly enjoyable show in spite of the stereotypes and the focus on the white characters. And during the Lady Gaga episode I wanted to give Kurt's dad a hug and a kiss for defending his son like that! It was awesome.

And "Pride and Prejudice" is probably my favorite mini-series ever, too, and the lake scene is great, too.

I love Kurt's dad! His defense of Kurt last week was so wonderful (although I did feel for Finn as well...I mean, who would want to live in that room?). He feels really inspirational but in an unusually realistic way.

I just can't resist awkward, bumbling Colin Firth (his state of undress is a pleasant bonus).

I know a lot of people complain about the racism and stereotyping and all the other problems of Glee - but I just watch a silly show with some pretty people (Hell yes Puck!) who sing and dance a lot. As long as I don't get too involved in the plot, I really don't care that much.

Love that reaction to CF's lake scene :P

Yeah, I don't mind turning off the critical part of my brain for an hour every week. Especially if Puck is there to be badass and sexy.

I have seen pieces of the BBC mini series but I have not seen the whole thing.

I have to agree with BSG mini series, one of the best of there.

You should see the rest of P&P! If you liked the parts you saw, that is.

And yes, BSG mini series is fantastic. Even if the show had never happened, I feel like it still stands on its own as a great few hours of television.
