really cool thing

Everybody who writes should read this essay on fanfiction and original fiction by mistful .  It won't take you long (unless you read exceptionally slowly) and it is really good.  And for me anyway, really true.  The thing is, I started writing original fiction long before I started writing fanfiction, and I sort of do both simultaneously although fanfiction is just so much easier.  So unless I have a deadline I never finish my original stories.  (Hooray for the composition class I'm taking!).  Anyway, the essay's really good, and mistful 's been published so she must know what she's talking about, right?
