I am sad (though not remotely surprised) that Kara lost to Buffy in the first round, but if Buffy doesn't trounce Spock I will be thoroughly disappointed in fandom. Seriously. I was surprised to see Aeryn lose to someone from Being Human. Very disappointing. I didn't know people even watched that show... ETA: Leslie Knope and Dexter Morgan are currently losing their respective races. PLEASE FIX THIS TERRIBLE INJUSTICE, FANDOM.

So long-time flisters might remember that back in the day [livejournal.com profile] visualthinker11  and I wrote a cracky series called The Very Secret Diaries...on the Hellmouth!  They live at [livejournal.com profile] hellmouth_vsds , and new readers ought to begin with Angel's Very Secret Diary, Days of Our Unlives.

But the reason for this post is that the Strangely Literal podcast did a reading of Buffy's Very Secret Diary, Slayers Rule, Vampires Drool.  You can read the diary here and/or listen to the podcast here.  V. exciting!

The podcast actually went up last month, but I keep forgetting to tell people about it.  Now I'm taking a break from work to post about it (and listen to it again).  Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] sl_podcast !

PART ONE
PART TWO

For the third and final installation, we have the following fandoms: Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wonderfalls, The Education of Max Bickford, 30 Rock, Lost, and a bunch of books.  Also some music.  Oh, and a thing about Ripley.

And that's it!  Who's on your list that I missed?

So here's the thing.  I'm not really into criticizing women (with a few exceptions).  There's far too much of that in the world, and I don't like to add to it.  Last week, I was reading this thing about some female characters in sci-fi, and it reminded me of the flowchart thingy that got linked all over the place a couple months ago.  Long story short, while I certainly see the value in speaking critically about the way women are written (and hell, I do it all the time) I feel it's detrimental to dismiss those women.  So I got the idea to do this post.  And I was going to post it on More Joy Day, which is today (Thursday) but I forgot and have only just remembered.  It will most likely not be Thursday anymore by the time I finish all the coding, so just know that I did start the post with a few minutes left in the day!

Anyway, I have been waiting for the opportune moment to post the "30 Days of Awesome Women" meme.  All in one day.  Or maybe three.  That moment may have been a couple of hours ago, but points for effort.

Behind the cut, you will find the first ten categories and LOTS of pictures.  Fandoms include: Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files, Veronica Mars, Doctor Who, Dexter, Firefly, Community, Angel, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Chuck, Wonderfalls, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Farscape, ...and I think that's all of them.  There will be more fandoms in the later parts.

Also I cheated and listed multiple characters for just about every category, so there are far more than ten women behind the cut.

22 awesome women )

Okay, that's all for now.  I'll be back with 11-20 tomorrow.  Probably.  And by "tomorrow" I really mean "later today" because it's not Thursday anymore.

In the meantime, feel free to chime in with other awesome women!

So I'm re-reading His Dark Materials for the millionth time, and I started mentally casting the BSG peeps in the Pullman roles.  Here's what I've got so far:

Lyra = Kara (obviously)
Will = Lee (the stuff with his mom is just too appropriate)
Roger = Helo (*sniff* poor Helo)
Lord Asriel = Lord Adama
Mrs. Coulter = Admiral Cain, or possibly Number Six.  She's a bit tricky.

And here's where I run into trouble.  I mean, Iorek is Iorek.  I just can't imagine any of the BSG characters as bears.  Perhaps Laura Roslin as Serafina?  Should she be Mary Malone?  Maybe Athena is Serafina and Laura is Mary.  And what about Lee Scoresby?  Or am I just crazy?

Now, Buffy meme!  I skipped a couple days so I'm gonna do two.

Chapter Three of The Very Secret Diaries...on the Hellmouth! has been posted at [profile] hellmouth_vsds . This is the part where I tell every BtVS fan out there to go read them.  You might not know it from my bsg fic, but I really do write humor, I swear.

"Big-time apocalypse again tonight. Wonder if I have time to fix my hair."
-Buffy: Slayers Rule, Vampires Drool...No really, it's gross

And the unrelated question: Are Ron Moore's podcast commentaries worth listening to? I watched most of his commentary on Occupation, and then I got bored and stopped.
