Three memes snagged from [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777 :

books )

movies )

And lastly, a fic meme!

If you had to delete all but five of your stories, which five would you keep and why? (Or ten if you prolific)

The Breath Between: I worked frakking hard on this one.  For a long frakking time.  It's my longest completed bsg fic to date, and I'm quite proud of it, so yeah, I'd keep it!

Portraits: My ode to Kara Thrace.  I feel like this piece says more than the majority of my other fics.  And it's got mythology!  I could never throw this one away, not when it's all about how awesome my girl is.

The Disappearing Ground: Well.  Yeah.  This one isn't perfect (none of them are, obviously, but there's one huge glaring flaw in this one that I long to fix every time I reread it).  Still, I wrote it because I really needed to, and I'm very attached to it.  The last two lines might be the best thing I've ever written.

Say Anything At All: Five times Kara said something she didn't mean to say (but not necessarily something she didn't mean).  This is just my big ol' gen Kara fic that's actually a bit shippy, but you know.  From childhood to 4.5.  It was a lot of fun to write, and yeah, I'm proud of it.

Five Times Kara Told Someone She Missed Them: Like Portraits, I think of this story as trying to say something, which might be a bit surprising given the brevity and the format.  Five short scenes that illustrate Kara's evolution over the years through the way she relates to others.

Eh, you know.  Because I can.  But first, a quick question for my flist, inspired by the song I am listening to right now: if I were to buy just one season of Bear McCreary's BSG soundtracks, which would you recommend? I only have one song right now. It is 'Kara Remembers' from Someone to Watch Over Me and I downloaded to help me write certain scenes in The Breath Between.

Community: set phasers to "love me" )

Parks and Recreation: i just like this show so much )

Chuck: spoilers for CAT Squad )

Farscape: most of the way through season 3 )

Also I have seen the new Game of Thrones preview and IT LOOKS SO BEYOND AMAZING.  That is all.

Oh yeah, and I have been rewatching The Education of Max Bickford.  I don't know what it is about this show (besides, you know, the Sackhoff element) that inspires me to rewatch it annually.  Someday I will write a big post about it.  But not this day.

I watched the Oscars too, of course.  I always do, even though they're not actually that interesting.  But this year I was just sad that my beloved True Grit got robbed.  I mean, I liked The King's Speech.  And I loved Colin Firth's acceptance speech.  That award was well deserved.  But I am sort of fundamentally apathetic about the British monarchy.  It's not like he wrote the speech, you know.   Yeah yeah, not the point, whatever.  I wasn't surprised, just a little disappointed.

Meme!  Stolen from everybody.

the year in fandom )

I keep thinking about things to post and then not posting them.  So here is an amalgamation of all that.

I almost posted about Dexter last week, just because I was in conniptions, I tell you. Conniptions!  No seriously, I kept having to pause the episode because I was freaking out.  And contorting myself into increasingly more bizarre positions.  I have no idea why.  I guess that was the only way I could express my inner turmoil.  Well, I was also chanting "fuck fuck fuck" under my breath for awhile, but you know, besides that.  I haven't seen this week's episode yet.  Maybe it will be less panic-inducing.

I could tell you about my writing.  But I don't feel like it.  I am woefully behind.  That is all.

Mostly I just want to talk about my various girlcrushes.  I want to do a picspam or something about my soccer girlcrushes.  I HAVE SO MANY.  I have also long held the belief that Abby Wambach is my soccer Starbuck.  Just go with it.  Anyway.  But I haven't done this post because I figured nobody would care to read it.  Hmm.  Also I'd have to find good pictures, which is sometimes difficult with women's soccer.  Lack of resources and all that.

And more recently, I want to post about my Pedro Almodóvar girlcrushes.  For a Spanish seminar this semester, I watched a shit ton of Almodóvar movies, and I AM IN LOVE.  Not with him.  With Carmen Maura.  If there were a fandom for his films, it would be amazing.  Sooooo many awesome women.  So much femslash.  (Though the pessimist in me would say all the fic would be about Antonio Banderas.  Or Gael García Bernal.  Ah well.  At least it would be canon slash, most likely).  Anyway.  I want fic about Carmen Maura and Penelope Cruz and Victoria Abril and Marisa Paredes and Chus Lampreave.  Dear god, I think I want RPF.

Other things...I have gone cold-turkey on Glee.  Yup, I am quitting.  No more.  Please yell at me if I start watching again.  This show is not good for me.  It just makes me angry.

I have reached an attitude of resigned indifference to the forthcoming Hunger Games movie.  more on this )

My decision to Not Care was also prompted by a rewatching of The Golden Compass movie.  I really don't like this movie )

Community (more specifically, Abed) has inspired me to watch more Farscape.  Still haven't finished season 2, but I'm getting there.  Sadly, Netflix took the series off Watch Instantly last month.  Also sadly, it's finals.

Well now, if anyone read all this whole mess of a post, wow!  Congratulations?  Or thank you?  I'm not sure.  I guess the point of this post is that you may have girlcrush picspams to look forward to.  That or a lengthy and very angry dissection of The Golden Compass movie.

Jude starring Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet.  I didn't know much (read: anything) about the movie and I was pretty much just watching it because I found it and it had CE's name on the cover.

Maybe forty minutes in I had a minor nerd freakout because none other than DAVID TENNANT showed up as some random guy in a bar and challenged Christopher Eccleston to, like, some battle of Latin or whatever.  He had about two lines (and got pwned by CE's character) but I was highly amused.  Guys, the movie is from 1996!

In case I haven't made it clear here, I totally adore Christopher Eccleston and Nine.  Love them.  Did not love this movie.  Oh, it was well-written and well-acted and well-directed and all that but it was also essentially two hours of DESPAIR.  It was quite compelling, but not unlike a trainwreck.  I thought it was going to be a period romance, and it nominally was but it was also the most upsetting movie I've seen in a long time.  I DID NOT SLEEP AFTER I WATCHED IT.
