Characters/Cast (for my own reference):

Echo/Caroline (Eliza Dushku)
Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett)
Boyd Langdon (Harry Lennix): Echo's handler
Topher Brink (Fran Kranz): Scientist guy
Adelle DeWitt (Olivia Williams): The face of Dollhouse?  I'm not sure that she's in charge.
Victor Lubov (Enver Gjokaj): Paul's contact.
Sierra (Dichen Lachman): Another doll.
Claire Saunders (Amy Acker): the doctor.

Let it be known that the imdb page is not to be trusted...I'm 99% sure that the character of November was written out.

Well now, I think this episode was better than last week's.  Paul is still cool, and he's got a sweet neighbor who of course has a crush on him. It's interesting that the Dollhouse peeps lied to Claire...maybe they were afraid she'd try to leave if she thought Alpha might come back?

Alpha's intriguing too.  Obviously there's got to be a reason he spared Echo.  And it doesn't quite add up that he would let her live and then try to kill her.  Unless he's trying to find out if she can be "a person" and if she, by that twisted logic, deserves to live?  Like, maybe he thinks that testing her like this will help her get out of the Dollhouse?  If she doesn't die in the process, that is.  Although that's another way out.  Funny that he seems to be right: she is remembering things.  But the Alpha thing is worrying in another respect.  He proves that getting out of the Dollhouse can be done, but that's not the way we want Echo to be done.  Kind of reminds me of Bionic Woman, except Alpha's not Katee Sackhoff, and Echo's not as bland as whatshername, which is saying something about BW that a doll is more interesting than their protagonist.

But the most interesting part about this episode was the Echo/Boyd relationship.  Of course she's forced to trust him, to believe him, but when really tested that fake trust breaks down and all she's left with is trust in her self--it's not until she sees her different selves that she pulls it together and defeats whatshisfacebadguy.  But Boyd's not imprinted, and he comes to trust her.  Which is interesting.  Kinda like Giles.  And speaking of Buffy, Echo learning to use the bow reminded me of Faith trying to use her bigass bow in Bad Girls.  Made the whole thing a little more amusing.

I am up to Shindig in my Firefly rewatch.  Hee, that one's written by Jane Espenson and the new Battlestar is too!  Which I haven't seen yet, but will be watching in an hour or two.
