shah_of_blahAs you may be aware, I am an avid reader of fanfiction. “Avid” may not be a strong enough word to convey just how much time I waste spend reading fic (old, new, good, bad). So why this rec list now? Because I’ve been thinking for the past few weeks that many of you LJers may not venture to good ol’ fanfiction.net. Or those ventures may be infrequent and trepidatious. Have no fear! For I, I am an expert.
And so, a list of Fics I Like that are (as far as I know) only on FFN and not LJ.
Secrets (greensleeves104): Lee and Kara grapple with Lee’s long-buried secrets, and a few of Kara’s as well. This is what Black Market should have been.
Sins of the Fodder (Noda2): Kara encounters a threat from the past. It has a silly title, but is not a silly fic. Set around Flight of the Phoenix.
Cold Blood (larsfarm77): Roslin falls victim to an increasingly sinister plot. There’s a lot of Laura and some other people who I don’t pay too much attention to in this story, but Kara is pulling an impossible situation out of the fire and it is spectacular.
The Edge of Night (Kylen): Everything on board the Galactica changes when a serious situation threatens the fleet. Self-contained ensemble fic set after the miniseries. There’s a little too much ‘ensemble’ and not quite enough ‘Kara’ for my taste, but even I can see that the author has struck a good balance with the many characters, and they are each quite satisfying.
Five Seasons in Caprica City (KNS): Thrace has seen Caprica City in every season. Previously recced here.
Fresh Wounds Amid Old Pains (kasey8473): Leoben decides that Kara needs a lesson. After escaping, she tries to deal with what happened. This story involves rape, but is a really excellent look at how Kara reacts to and recovers from a trauma, and how the other characters interact with her. Lee, Sam, Helo, Sharon, Adama—they are all sharply in character and I love it.
Hush (Phindle): In five minutes they can fill a room with what they’re not saying, until she can’t tell which are the words they have said and which are the ones they haven’t. An example of prose at its best.
Things remembered (Lymiryc): This fic is a little bit insane and could use some revision, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable tale. Just...insane. The summary should give you an idea of that. Lee Kara Angsty romance mythokink kinda random totally compiled.
Apotheosis (Jason Thompson): Lee Adama makes a decision during the first hours after the Attack that changes everything. I get bored with Lee (I know, I know) but if you want a really good longfic about our favorite pilots, you should check out this one.

Roofietoof has an LJ but doesn’t appear to be active in fandom anymore. Her fic, however, remains at FFN. There’s a lot of good stuff you can check out on her profile page, but my favorite is this one.
The Right Words: Everybody likes a turkey sandwich. One of my go-to feel-good shippy fics.
The works ofnjborba :
njborba has an LJ, but her stories are not archived there (she has an additional site, but for easy access I have compiled links from FFN).
Wing and a Prayer: An FTL glitch causes Lee and Kara to end up on Earth's doorstep, but finding the thirteenth colony is merely the beginning of their journey. I was suspicious at first with the FTL stuff, but then it turned out to be awesome.
The Long Way Home: Lee tries to deal with a secret that Kara kept from him for ten years. Childfic, on Earth.
All Is Not Lost: Kara is reunited with the Fleet, bringing tidings from Earth and a surprise that none of them could have expected. Childfic, again, but good stuff.
The works of Cranberry Jei:
Two of my three favorite fics by this author are as yet unfinished, but I’m going to list them anyway. Tough. Also, Jei is badly in need of a beta but please do look past the misspellings and the extraneous commas.
As the Earth, She Revolves (finished): It has been nine years since the end of New Caprica and Pegasus’ search for earth. Now her Commander and crew have return with good news and a bright shiny future. But, is it too little, too late for Lee Adama?
Speak Softly, Without Regret: Kara would speak the words softly this time, without regret. Goes AU from Occupation and turns into a full-fledged epic. I eagerly await the next chapter.
The Caprican Rebel: Kidnapping the Admiral’s son was never the plan. This one is quite AU. Kara was kicked out of the military well before the war started. Now she’s the captain of this sort-of-pirate ship in the fleet and wrapped up in all sorts of dangerous business.
There are also the works of JaneAus10: Siren’s Kiss and Every Time My Heart Beats. I do feel a little hesitant reccing them though. Here’s the thing: Jane is great at building elaborate, well thought-out, compelling tales. Siren’s Kiss is the perfect example. The thing is, she’s not the best at characterization. But I’m still hooked. I'll let you decide for yourselves.

Until She Can’t (hey-torch): It's what she's always done. As long as she can it's what she'll always do...postLDYB AU. Last updated in October.
Half Life (Ring Red): Starbuck died tragically over five years ago. The Fleet mourned and moved on with their lives. What happens when the lost daughter is returned to the Fleet? Will she ever find herself again? Is there anywhere she belongs? Hasn’t been updated in years, but is a great read.
I Shall Believe (Chione): Post-AU Maelstrom. Kara didn't die. But there's a reason she's been reminded of her childhood, and her destiny is something she never dreamed. Eventual KL. Damn fine pregnancy fic.
Event Horizon: Defiance (setivalen): AU, beginning with "missing year" on New Caprica. Different leadership is in place on Galactica and Pegasus as the invasion/occupation is about to begin. Multi-arc story, covering occupation through to discovery of Earth and final conflict with Cylons. A little too much old person sex, and other things that have nothing to do with Kara. Some mediocre dialogue. But a riveting plot, and some good shippy stuff. Lots of angst and drama.
Feel free to add any I may have missed. I’m confident that I’ve read them all, but some may have slipped my mind. And most of all, read and enjoy. :)
Status of my TV: 10 episodes of Dexter, 7 of Dollhouse. Still watching Big Bang. May have given up on The Office. CANNOT WAIT FOR THE RETURN OF CHUCK.
