I don't quite know what to make of "Sine Qua Non" and I wish it wasn't called that because I never took Latin and I can't remember how to pronounce it. But I can't help thinking of math (sine, cosine, all that nonsense) which is just not pleasant.
Watching with my family was alright. They didn't mock me until after the episode!
First of all, I got a SIGNIFICANT GLANCE that was far superior to last week's barely there glance. Although I was annoyed that we didn't get a shot of Kara listening to Lee being sworn in. Her bff/lover just became President; this is pretty significant. But anyway. The hangar deck scene was satisfying to me because it showed, even without dialogue, that piloticians are turning to each other. So I'm optimistic. (Why does the lj spellchecker thing say that "dialogue" is not a word? I refuse to call it "dialog")
I don't usually pay attention to Jamie Bamber's arms and those things (sacrilege, I know, but I didn't actually find him that attractive) but THE SHIRT! Wow.
I was annoyed when Adama talked to Lee about how he couldn't live without her, not because I was annoyed that he was saying it or that he was saying it to Lee, but...well...in my mind, Lee hears that and thinks of Kara. He has to. And then he runs off and finds her and...well...you know. Really, I just want them to be in each others' lives, and omg, this offscreen thing is killing me. Remember when they used to have meaningful interaction AND plot AND other characters too? The good old days of the first two seasons. When the 7 main cast really were the main characters.
Tigh and CapricaSix, wtf, I wasn't surprised because I'd heard the pregnancy rumor, but I so wanted it to be not true. That is disturbing and obnoxious and just plain stupid, in my opinion. Why would Caprica have sex with him? I'm sick of her. The writers have been screwing with her characterization since "Downloaded" and I'm not convinced. I almost miss the baby-killing Six because at least she was consistent (until she wasn't). I didn't mind the Tigh/Adama fight, though, as it appears other people did. That whole "beat each other up and then get over it" thing is kind of okay with me. But most importantly, it had that great line.
*Tigh falls on model ship*
my sister: That thing has been broken and rebuilt too many times to be conceivable.
Adama: Do you know how many times I've had to rebuild that thing? (or something along those lines)
Also I was amused by their whole "my girlfriend is better" argument. And Michael Hogan's face.
Romo! I do like him, mostly because Mark Sheppard is fantastic, but I really do not know what to make of this. On the one hand, I really kind of like that he goes nuts because his cat dies. But that leading to attempting to shoot Lee? Not sure I buy that. Although the dog was awesome.
And Lee is president! I mean, as soon as he and Romo started talking about other candidates, I figured that they were gonna suggest Lee. But at the same time, I really don't like the idea of him being President. It's just...it cements the Adama dynasty and that is not okay and I don't really understand why the Quorum would be okay with this. Does Lee even have any idea how to be President? He has next to no experience with legislature, so really he's being appointed because his father will accept it. And I don't know how I feel about that. I don't know how Lee feels about that. Or, you know, everyone else. Can somebody besides Baltar get elected? Please?
I spent a while bemoaning the fact that Racetrack was getting more screentime than You Know Who, but the hangar deck scene kind of made me forgive the writers for that. BUT my sister made a very good point during Kara's first scene. The one in which she objected to sending out more pilots in search of the missing Basestar. She, more than anyone else, believes that Roslin and the Hybrid are necessary. So why isn't she fighting to get them back? I kind of convinced myself that it was because Adama is telling her to send out her pilots and so she has to think about them, and not just herself (and oh yeah, Kara's CAG again. What is this, musical chairs?). So maybe she learned from the Demetrius to keep her crazy-destiny-mission-things to herself, and not to bring others with her, but...I don't know...I'm having to infer all of this and I wish we got her maybe talking to Adama about this a bit more.
I just remembered that Helo's on the basestar too. So really, who is watching Hera?! I would go with my Tigh and EllenSix theory, but Tigh seemed to be too busy to babysit. Bah.
So you see, I'm very confused. And who names their child Leland? I just think of the guy from Twin Peaks when I hear it. Leland Palmer was a very creepy person who I do not want to think of when I look at Lee.
I'm just going to think about my SIGNIFICANT LOOK.
